For those who are on the lists for organ transplants, the wait for an available organ can be very long. Many will die before they receive an organ, or because they do not have enough funds for surgery. Patients who become the focus of the media, on the other hand, have a much better chance at getting an organ. A Case of Need looks at the ethics involved when a youngster captures the attention of journalists and receives a new liver and a large amount of cash, while another child with an equal need does not. The program won a Silver Apple Award at the National Educational Film & Video Festival.
