Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith
Mat Gurman is a successful Los Angeles session guitarist who has played with such top bands and performers as the Backstreet Boys and Tanya Tucker. Since graduating from the California Institute of the Arts, he has also played with the Tonight Show Band. In this instructional video on the blues guitar sounds of the 1950s, Gurman demonstrates dominant and minor blues progressions, turnarounds, and intro licks. Muted string rakings and stop-time licks are broken down for ongoing practice. Those interested in more classical techniques will enjoy Gurman's demonstration of master bends, pull-offs, hammer-ons, slides, slurs and vibrato.
