Synopsis by Jonathan Crow

Bengali terrorist turned filmmaker Hemen Gupta directs this political drama about the occasionally violent rallies of the Quit India movement against colonial rule and the protest leader's ambivalent reaction to Gandhi's call for non-violence. Set in 1942 in a Bengali village where a leading non-violence activist implores women to carry knives, the film centers on Ajoy, his spouse Bina, and his grandmother -- all of whom are full of nationalistic fervor. The village suddenly becomes a tinderbox of violence, when the local blacksmith's daughter is murdered and the blacksmith is tortured by the evil army major Trivedi (Bikash Roy). Later, Bina is gang raped causing her to go insane, while Ajoy and his grandmother are shot and killed for leading a peaceful protest.
