Produced by Big Idea Productions, the same firm responsible for the popular religiously-oriented children's videos Veggie Tales, 3-2-1 Penguins/LarryBoy Stories was a weekly NBC amalgam of two properties that had likewise been introduced on VHS and DVD. The CGI-animated 3-2-1 Penguins featured a pair of earth youngsters named Jason and Michelle, who, accompanied by a quartet of alien penguins, explored the universe and learned important lessons concerning such human values as faith, trust and friendship. LarryBoy was a cel-animated spinoff of Veggie Tales, wherein the garden-bred protagonist Larry Cucumber performed transformed into "LarryBoy." a vegetable superhero decked out with super-suction ears and a plunger-like device on his. Assisted by his butler Alfred (played by Veggie Tales "regular" Alfred Asparagus), LarryBoy defended decency and resisted temptation in the town of Bumblyburg. Having already been in steady circulation on video since 2001, 3-2-1 Penguins/LarryBoy Stories joined the NBC Saturday-morning children's lineup on September 9, 2006.
