Yugoslavian director Zvonimir Berkovic embraced several careers. He studied violin at Zagreb's Academy of Music as well as dabbled in philosophy before he successfully completed a course in direction at the Zagreb Academy of Theater Art and in 1974. After graduation, he became a lecturer in drama and began writing scripts. Berkovic turned professional as a screenwriter in 1956 and penned scenarios for features, animated shorts, and documentaries before making his directorial debut in 1966 with Rondo. Berkovic subsequently made about one feature film per decade. In between his other pursuits, Berkovic has worked as a violinist and music critic, a theater critic, a stage director, and the literary chief at Jadran Film.
