A supporting actor in silent Westerns, dark-complexioned William McCall had appeared on-stage in the popular Get-Rich-Quick-Wallingford and, opposite the legendary John Drew, in The Car-Bird prior to entering motion pictures with Vitagraph in the late 1910s. As Billy McCall, he supported whey-faced comic Larry Semon in such farces as Huns and Hyphens (1918) and Frauds and Frenzies (1918) before settling into a long stint in serials and Westerns under the less informal moniker William McCall. Surviving the transition to talkies, McCall played bits in Westerns through 1937.
