Biography by AllMovie

A former draftsman turned stock company actor, North Carolina native William Bowman had, according to his official studio biography, "toured the Orient in Shakespearean repertory" prior to making his screen debut with the Thanhouser company in 1910. He was made a director for the American Company in 1912 and became an important actor/director for such pioneering film concerns as Vitagraph, Universal, and Metro, later even helming a couple of films for the legendary Miller 101 Ranch. Like most of the early directors, Bowman's screen career ended in the very early 1920s.
