William C. Faure may best be remembered for directing the excellent British epic miniseries Shaka Zulu (1983), an imperfect, but riveting look at the rise and fall of the Zulu king who tried and nearly succeeded in preventing British colonists from taking over his tribe's South African lands in the early 19th century. Faure turned toward directing after working with the South African Broadcasting Corporation in the early '70s, following studies at a film school in England. While with the network, Faure supervised the production of The Dinleys, his country's first soap opera. During the '90s, Faure directed the Miss South Africa and Miss World contests.
