A busy supporting actor in low-budget action-melodramas of the 1920s, Vatier Loring Barnes entered films playing the nasty Checko the Crimp in the Elmo Lincoln serial Elmo the Fearless (1920). The chapterplay was helmed by veteran action specialist J.P. McGowan, who continued to cast Barnes in supporting roles, large and small, through the 1920s and beyond, with the actor on occasion also moonlighting as screenwriter.
