Biography by AllMovie

One of the least remembered Western heroes of all time, former cowpuncher Tex Covey's opportunity came when producer Morris R. Schlank chose him for the leading role in something called The Phantom Pinto (1928), the opening entry in a series of six Westerns filmed on location in Kernville, CA. Despite a great deal of publicity and a good cast that also included veteran leading lady Neva Gerber, ace stuntman Cliff Lyons, and former director Francis Ford, Covey was singularly unimpressive and Schlank replaced him with Lyons for the remainder of the low-budget series.
