An Emmy recipient for her work as executive producer of PBS' Dance in America: Free to Dance -- Steps of the Gods, longtime modern dance supporter Stephanie Reinhart traveled the globe in efforts to bring new troupes to U.S. audiences. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Reinhart frequently lectured about modern dance and wrote numerous books, including East Meets West in Dance: Voices in the Cross-Cultural Dialogue, on the subject. Honored by the French government in early 2002 for her contributions to dance, Reinhart was involved with the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC, since 1977 and, along with husband Charles, served as co-director of the festival since 1993. In addition, Reinhart also worked closely with the Kentucky and North Carolina state arts councils, Martha Clarke's Crownset dance company, and the Laura Dean Dancers and Musicians. On September 23, 2002, Stephanie Reinhart died of leukemia in New York. She was 58.
