Hungarian-born maestro Georg Solti conducted the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 20 years and is responsible for elevating it to a world class ensemble known especially for its recordings. Solti can be seen performing in several documentaries and concert films. He died in his sleep on September 5, 1997, while vacationing in Southern France.
