A native of Czechoslovakia, Rolf Thiele helped found a film production company in Berlin shortly after WWII. There he produced a number of popular films. He became a director in the early '50s. He has since become known for his somewhat erotic themes. His best-known films include Rosmarie/Rosemary (1958) and Tonio Kroger (1964).
