An extremely handsome young Columbia contract player of the 1950s, California native Robert Francis had appeared in productions at the famed Pasadena Playhouse prior to making his much-heralded screen debut as Ensign Keith in The Caine Mutiny (1954). He was reunited with co-star May Wynn in The Bamboo Prison (1954) and played the male ingenue once again in John Ford's The Long Gray Line (1955). Sadly, a most promising career was cut tragically short when Francis perished in a plane crash.
