A former child actor, Robert Ellis Miller emerged from Harvard with the urge to direct. After toting up several impressive TV credits as a producer/director, he helmed his first theatrical feature, Any Wednesday (1966). After that, his big-screen output was uneven, with such productions as The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (1968) and Reuben Reuben (1983) on the "plus" side, and ill-conceived efforts like Brenda Starr (1989) in the minus column. Miller's made-for-TV movies include Ishi: The Last of His Tribe (1978) and A Waltons Wedding (1995). He died in 2017, at age 89.
