Biography by AllMovie

Actor Peter Bergman is famous not only for his Emmy award-winning roles on The Young and the Restless and All My Children, but also for being the original person to utter the iconic line "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV" in a television commercial for cough syrup. Before he became one of the most enduring soap stars in TV history, Bergman was born in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where his father, an American Navy officer, was stationed. He went on to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York before he was cast on the popular soap operas for which he would come to be known, as well as in other projects such as the TV movie Danielle Steel's Palomino.
