Soviet filmmaker and actor Sergei Komarov got his start participating as an actor for Kuleshov's experimental film lab. Sharing his mentor's fascination with comic montage, the young filmmaker directed a few such docudramas, most notably Kiss (1927) a chronicle comprised of newsreel footage of American star Mary Pickford's trip to Moscow.
