Czech filmmaker Antonín Kachlík graduated from Prague's FAMU in 1950 with a degree in film direction, and soon established himself professionally as a stage director and literary manager at the Workers Theater in Zlín (formerly Gottwaldov). In 1956, Kachlík began working as an assistant director at Barrandov Film Studio. In addition to directing, Kachlík usually collaborates on his screenplays, writes plays, novels and other pieces, and lectures at his alma mater.
