A native of Northern Ireland, Colin Morgan studied acting at the Belfast Institute of Further & Higher Education, and later graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2007. With extremely prestigious credentials in hand, the actor then went on to appear in a handful of popular Old Vic and New Vic stage productions, before trying his hand at on-camera work. He landed a starring role on the series Merlin in 2008, and later signed on to appear in the feature film The Sea Change.

- Came of age during the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Among his memories: evacuating his home as a boy due to a pipe bomb being in the house next door.
- Some of his earliest roles were in amateur productions of Cinderella (he was in the chorus) and Peter Pan at age 5.
- Wanted to study drama at technical college, but because his local school didn't offer any courses he wound up taking the bus to Belfast to attend one that did. The commute was 80 minutes each way.
- Made his professional stage debut in 2007, while still in drama school, when he was picked for the lead in Vernon God Little at London's esteemed Young Vic theatre.
