The gifted singer/songwriter-turned-actress Dana Fuchs (pronounced "Fyooks") launched her entertainment career as the frontwoman for the grassroots band the Dana Fuchs Band. The group constituted a blues-influenced, mellow yet energetic rock act that more than amply revealed Fuchs' melodic gifts and ability to pen catchy hooks; in this venue, the vocalist suggested a cross between Bonnie Raitt and Melissa Etheridge. Fuchs transitioned to features almost effortlessly by debuting on a soundtrack -- to Laurie Collyer's acclaimed character study SherryBaby (2006). The following year, Fuchs landed the role of tenement owner-cum-rocker Sadie (as in, "Sexy Sadie," from the Beatles' White Album) in Julie Taymor's psychedelically tinged Fab Four romp, Across the Universe (2007).
