Canadian screenwriter Ted Allan is best known for penning Lies My Father Told Me (1976), the Oscar-nominated story of a Jewish boy growing up in a 1920s Montreal ghetto who develops a special friendship with his orthodox grandfather. Some of his other well-known films include his co-adaptation (with John Cassavetes) of his story Love Streams (1984) and Bethune: The Making of a Hero (1989), which was based on Allan's The Scalpel, the Sword: The Story of Dr. Norman Bethune.
