Italian director Mario Caserini first worked as a painter. In 1905 he entered the film industry as an actor. Two years later he began directing and became one of Italy's premiere filmmakers during its "golden age" of silent films. He was also one of his country's most prolific directors who specialized in literary adaptations, melodramas, and historical epics.
