Biography by AllMovie

In 1920 Svend Gade directed a version of Hamlet that was based on the actual Danish legend of a princess who pretended to be a prince. Before coming to Danish cinema in 1916, the Copenhagen-born Gade worked on stage as an actor and set decorator. Gade moved to Hollywood in 1923 and became a set designer on two Ernst Lubitsch films Rosita (1923) and Three Women (1924). He resumed directing in 1925 and continued through 1928. Unable to make the change to talkies, Gade went back to Denmark and resumed his theatrical work.
