Distinguished animator Dusan Vukotic originally studied to be an architect, but then became a cartoonist with a satirical Yugoslavian magazine. He began animating films in the early '50s and became a key figure in developing animation in his country. In 1961, his short film Ersatz became the first non-American animated film to win an Oscar.
