Biography by AllMovie

Best remembered for playing Mrs. Verdoux in Charles Chaplin's Monsieur Verdoux, Canadian-born Mady Correll had appeared in a couple of Broadway flops, including a turn opposite Gene Lockhart in Sweet Mystery of Life (1935), and starred in the Los Angeles production of Naughty Marietta before entering films with RKO in 1937. Monsieur Verdoux remained a highlight but was also the final screen appearance in a film career mainly spent in such potboilers as A Girl a Guy and a Gob (1941) and The Old Chisholm Trail (1942). Long in retirement, Correll's death was attributed to stomach cancer.
