Biography by Sandra Brennan

Before entering show business, Millard Webb had been a civil engineer. An injury forced his exit from that profession and he then began performing in stock theater. In 1915, D.W. Griffith hired him as a bit player. Webb acted in numerous films before becoming first a screenwriter and then a director. During the '20s, he helmed a number of prestigious films, including The Sea Beast.
