Before becoming a successful independent producer, Lawrence Turman was in the textile industry and then worked with a talent agency. He and producer David Foster teamed up to make several film adaptations of Broadway shows. Turman also directed a few films, beginning with The Marriage of a Young Stockbroker in 1971.
