Born in Detroit, MI, director Greta Schiller has traveled around the world making extensively researched and highly informative documentary films. Her first major feature-length release was the Emmy award-winning documentary Before Stonewall, an in-depth history of the gay rights movement in America. Along with her partner and frequent collaborator, Andrea Weiss, Schiller founded Jezebel Productions and made a trilogy of documentaries about women in jazz. Her international breakthrough was the highly acclaimed Paris Was a Woman, which received a theatrical release in the U.S. and was broadcast on the Sundance Channel. In 1998, Schiller made The Man Who Drove With Mandela about African National Congress activist Cecil Williams, which won the Best Documentary prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.
