Biography by AllMovie

The son of veteran stage and film actor/director George Nicholls, George Nicholls Jr. started out as a child actor at the old Biograph studios in 1910. The younger Nicholls remained in show business as a film editor, first at Paramount in the late '20s, and then at RKO Radio. After editing such RKO productions as The Silver Cord and Ann Vickers (both 1933), he was promoted to the director's chair with Anne of Green Gables (1934). His later directorial credits included the American retakes for the European production Michael Strogoff (1937) and the large-scale Republic historical film Man of Conquest. George Nicholls Jr. died at the age of 42 from injuries suffered in an auto accident.
