In film, Norman Rene is known for helming the stage and screen version A Prelude to a Kiss (1992). His other film credits include made-for-TV drama Longtime Companion (1990), one of the first films to deal straightforwardly but sensitively with the AIDS epidemic. Rene's main venue for directing was on the New York stage, particularly in off-off-Broadway shows like George Furth's Precious Sons. Rene died of AIDS on May 24, 1996.
