Author and screenwriter Neil Paterson (born James Edmund Paterson in Scotland) penned the scripts for several British films of the '50s and '60s, including the Academy Award-winning script for Room at the Top in 1959 -- the film was based on his novel Man on a Tightrope. A graduate of Edinburgh University, Paterson won the Atlantic Award of Literature in 1946. Later he served as a governor for the British Film Institute and worked as a television executive.
