During the '80s and '90s, Murray Newey was one of New Zealand's busiest production managers. He worked closely with Lucasfilm on such projects as Willow (1988), and shortly before his death, was working as a production executive and location scout on the prequels of Star Wars. Newey started out as an assistant director on locally produced films in the early '80s. He became a production manager in the mid-'80s and produced such films as Death Warms Up (1984), Bonjour Timothy (1995), and The Whole of the Moon (1996).
