Nicknamed "Filet Mignon," blonde, American silent-screen actress Mignon Anderson became a leading lady for the Thanhouser company, a small but bustling motion picture plant operating out of New Rochelle, NY. Like most of her contemporaries, Anderson played every role imaginable in scores of one- and two-reel comedies and melodramas, often opposite J. Morris Foster, a dark-haired lead actor whom she married in 1915. The couple relocated to the burgeoning film capital of Hollywood in 1917, but Anderson's screen career was decidedly on the wane and she retired in 1922. Interviewed shortly before her death in 1983, the former silent star acknowledged that early filmmaking was hardly the glamorous business it would later become. "I rode the bus to work every day," she remembered wistfully.
