According to his official studio biography, Kansas-born actor/director/writer Leo Pierson "made pictures in 12 countries, the Orient and South Seas." A member of the Belasco Stock Company, the dark-haired Pierson became a star for various Universal companies in the 1910s, mainly appearing in potboilers but also functioning as an assistant director. Among his scores of credits, only one truly stands out: '49-'17 (1917), a Western directed by his wife, Universal screenwriter Ruth Ann Baldwin. Like Miss Baldwin, Pierson curtailed his screen work in the early 1920s.
