  • Was first cast by Bollywood Director Mahesh Kaul in the film Talaaq (1958) after having spotted her with some guests at a film set when she was only nine years old.
  • Earned her first big recognition as a dancer from her role the Bollywood film Bada Aadmi (1961).
  • Attained stardom by her role of the dancer Munni Bai in the film Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971).
  • Was cast as the lead heroine in the Bollywood films Jahan Jage Wahan Savera and Jinke Duniya Mein Roshni Nahi Hoti, both of which were never released.
  • Founded a dancing school during 1980s after superannuating from Bollywood.
  • Never married due to her engagement with Bollywood.
  • Succumbed to cancer at age 56 on 9 May 2004.
