Biography by AllMovie

Director Judit Ember is perhaps best known as a pioneer of feature-length documentaries that make extensive use of 'talking heads,' (on-screen narrators who comment upon or add insight to images and issues) to present provocative, at times uncomfortable historical truths. Her often controversial topics have made it difficult for her to get her films past government censors and to gain acceptance among conservative audiences. She began her career as a teacher of Hungarian and history. She was an educator for five years before spending 1964-1968 in training as a film director.
