Biography by Hans J. Wollstein

American silent-screen actor Joseph (Joe) Bennett usually appeared in westerns, almost always as the heroine's weakling brother or the villain's young henchman. Today, Bennett is perhaps best remembered as Bart Leadley, the young wastrel son of Carl Stockdale in the fine Ken Maynard western Somewhere in Sonora (1927). On-screen with Triangle from the mid-1910s, Bennett's death at the age of only 37 was attributed to a heart attack. Another Joe Bennett later appeared in James Cagney's Something to Sing About (1937).
