John Boyt designed costumes and occasionally sets for several major Hollywood films during the '60s and '70s, but he has primarily worked on theatrical productions. He began his career in 1946 designing costumes for New York stage shows such as A Flag is Born, Playboy of the Western World, and Years Ago. Boyt has also been an art director and a television screenwriter. During the early 1950s, he was the head of the NBC costume department. Later in life he taught at the State University of New York.
