London-born filmmaker Joe Wright got his professional start helming several television projects for the BBC before directing his breakthrough film, 2005's Pride and Prejudice. Based on the classic Jane Austen book of the same name, it earned Wright the Carl Foreman Award for the Most Promising Newcomer at the 2006 BAFTAs. In 2007, he followed Pride and Prejudice up with an adaptation of Ian McEwan's acclaimed novel Atonement.
