British actress Joan Barry was best known for her theatrical work during the 1920s, but she also appeared in silent films. In 1929, she dubbed the dialog for Polish leading lady Anny Ondra in Hitchcock's first talkie, Blackmail. In 1932, Hitchcock cast her as a socialite in Rich and Strange. Barry retired from films the following year to marry a London banker; she went on to become a prominent hostess of high-class social gatherings.
