British writer Jack Marks was active in films from 1937 to 1951. Most of Marks' films were regional comedies, made on a shoestring for provincial audiences. He was a principal writer of the "Old Mother Riley" films, which starred Arthur Lucan, a music-hall funster who appeared in drag as an elderly washerwoman. Jack Marks was responsible for such low-brow hijinks as Old Mother Riley Joins Up (1939), Old Mother Riley Headmistress (1950).
