Distinguished in both his native Russia and internationally, filmmaker Igor Talankin (born Industriy Vasilievich Talankin) is noted for his lyrical films. He graduated from Moscow's State Film Institute in 1956. Three years later, Talankin took advanced courses in film direction. In 1960, he co-directed Seryozha with Georgi Daneliya. The film earned awards and praise at several international festivals as did his solo directorial debut The Entry (1962). Both films dealt with the problems of modern youth. His third film, Day Stars, provided an important exploration of the creative process. In addition to filmmaking, Talankin has been teaching at the State Film Institute since 1964.
