George Sluizer got his start assisting such filmmakers as Sacha Guitry, Michael Anderson, and Bert Haanstra. In the early '60s, he produced and directed several television documentaries (some of which were made for the National Geographic Society) and award-winning short films. Around the early '80s, Sluizer also added feature films to his repertoire. His most well-known film is internationally acclaimed psychological thriller The Vanishing (1988), which he himself remade in English in 1993. His final work as a director was 2012's Dark Blood. Sluizer died in 2014, at age 82.
