French director Georges Lacombe is one of those filmmakers whose career started out with a bang and then quickly (with only a few subsequent exceptions) fizzled into mediocrity. His famed debut medium-length feature La Zone (1928) was a well-received documentary. He then began working as an assistant director for Clair and others before making his debut-feature film in the early '30s. Le Dernier des Six (1941) is one of his best features.
