A veteran stage actor who had toured Australia with the J.C. Williamson and Walter Sanford stock companies, stocky, gray-haired character actor George Kunkel became a popular villain in Vitagraph melodramas of the early 1910s. He later appeared for Goldwyn and Famous Players but by the 1920s was mainly playing lawmen in low-budget Westerns.
