Biography by AllMovie

Actor George Adamson is best known for being the technical advisor and basis for the popular film Born Free, a story about the African lion cub he and his wife Joy adopted, raised, and returned to the wilds. Prior to entering the film industry, Adamson was a safari hunter and senior game warden in Kenya in 1956. Later he went on to appear in two similar films in which he played himself. When not acting, Adamson continued working with lions at his compound in Kenya's Kora National Reserve. Adamson was outspoken and openly criticized the government's lax handling of poachers. In the end, it is believed that his protests resulted in his murder by those he spoke out against. Adamson also penned several books.
