Welsh actor Gareth Hughes was typically cast as a callow, sensitive hero in Hollywood silent films. Hughes got his start on stage during childhood and continued to play youthful leads on Broadway. He began his Hollywood career in 1919. Following his retirement from films in the early 1930s, Hughes became a missionary and worked among the Paiute Indians in Nevada.
