Plump, balding Fritz Schade and his blonde wife Betty Schade were both members of Mack Sennett's original Keystone company, her alternating with star comedienne Mabel Normand as leading lady and him playing various pompous Teutonic characters. By 1914, Schade had become part of the Charles Chaplin stock company and is perhaps best remembered as Dr. Pain, the dentist in Laughing Gas (1914). Unlike Betty, who defected to Universal, Schade remained with Sennett until 1917. He later appeared in the Fox Sunshine Comedies.
