With his rakish mustache and a bowler jauntily pushed to the back of his head, Chicago-born Billy Franey (sometimes billed William Franey) starred in Universal Joker comedies from 1913. In the 1920s, he became a busy presence at almost every poverty row company, almost always supplying brief comic relief in Westerns. The veteran performer died from a bout of influenza.
