A tall, brooding character actor, Boston-born Eugene Ormonde had, according to his official Famous Players-Lasky studio biography, been educated in both the U.S. and in Europe. On stage from young adulthood, Ormonde toured for Augustin Daley, appeared under the management of David Belasco (opposite Belasco's great star, Minnie Maddern Fiske), and was a leading man for Margaret Anglin. In films for Famous Players and Fox from the mid-1910s, the six foot, 180-pound character actor could play comedy as well as drama and was seen in top support in three Douglas Fairbanks successes, including Reaching for the Moon (1917), in which he played the Prime Minister of Vulgaria. More often than not, Ormonde provided chills rather than laughter, most notably in The Woman Who Gave (1918), in which he not only abuses Evelyn Nesbitt but also her (real-life) son Russell Thaw. The veteran character star succumbed to tuberculosis.
